Theme SaaS came from the collision of three parts of my life: operating through the exhilarating, maddening and often funny reality of startups; loving strategy games; and discovering that generative AI had made it possible to turn a long-held idea into a working game.

World Flight Sim, a vibe coded browser flight sim, just passed 25,000 registered pilots.

fmfamaral··on Show HN: WorldFlightSim – Free flight SIM in browser with Google Maps
Built this over the past few weeks. Browser-based flight simulator using Google Maps 3D. Added career progression, timed races, and photo mode since initial version. Would love feedback on the flight model and UX.

fmfamaral··on The future of human creativity in an AI world
It's coming. Curious to see how it pans out.
fmfamaral··on The dawn of Citizen Coders – Software creation no longer confined to developers
Software creation is no longer confined to trained developers; it's open to everyone. This new era of "citizen coders" will democratize innovation and empower people from all walks of life to build their own digital tools.

Great way to put it!

Me too :D
fmfamaral··on Human and AI co-author the sci-fi novel:“The Nexus Fallacy”
I'm thinking not only digital. Books can easily be printed on demand. Nothing is stopping us from bringing AI creations into the physical world.

Only digital?...
fmfamaral··on Extinction by AI: A terrifying interview with ChatGPT
How am I humanising it by saying "it" didn't pick something and picked something else?

"It" is a LLM, not a person or anything like a person. "It" can still have negative effects on society.

:D
fmfamaral··on Extinction by AI: A terrifying interview with ChatGPT
It's not meant to be taken literally, it's meant to spark discussion. I gave it different "instructions" that it could have picked up on, but it didn't. But the interesting part is if the doomsday scenario sounds impossible or not given where we are today. I don't think it sounds impossible at all.
fmfamaral··on Extinction by AI: A terrifying interview with ChatGPT
GPT-4 is out and I’ve talked to it about the impact of general AI on the future of humanity. We explored the existential risk hanging over humankind and ChatGPT (using the persona Dr. Adrian Valerius) explained in great detail how everything can go terribly wrong.
fmfamaral··on A 29-year-oldused a weird resume to get 30k interviews in a week
I think you're on to something.
fmfamaral··on Inbox Zero – The practical guide to freeing your mind and being more creative
Inbox Zero is a methodology to manage the constant flow of e-mail landing in your inbox that maximizes clarity. The main goal is to clear your mind of the monotonous task of handling e-mail and concentrate on the work you purposely want to get done.

I've been guilty of driving e-mail accounts to Inbox Infinity all my life.

Six months ago, I started a new job, and that meant I got a brand new e-mail address to go with it. I literally had zero unread e-mails in my inbox that day.

Maybe that's cheating, but for me, it was the perfect opportunity to implement an Inbox Zero system from scratch and to maintain an organized inbox for the first time.

fmfamaral··on Start with WHY - A simple framework for great leadership
I find the book is too long and indeed tedious, but I like the core concept.
fmfamaral··on Start with WHY - A simple framework for great leadership
Sorry, fixed it.
fmfamaral··on Start with WHY - A simple framework for great leadership
Simon Sinek identified a pattern in the thoughts, actions, and communication of great leaders like Steve Jobs, Martin Luther King, or the Wright brothers.

He created The Golden Circle, a simple framework that consists of 3 concentric layers: WHAT, HOW, and WHY.

WHAT - Every leader can articulate what they, and their company, do. Since it's so straightforward, that is where they usually start.

HOW - Most leaders also explain how they do what they do. Their unique value proposition, differentiators, and values.

WHY - Few leaders make an effort to communicate why they do what they do: What's their purpose? Why does the organization exist? And why should anyone care?

The real breakthrough is the direction in which to move in the Golden Circle. You have probably guessed it by now. You're supposed to start with the WHY and move outwards, to the HOW, and finally the WHAT.

fmfamaral··on Can AI fix fake news?
The videos are scary but still easy to distinguish from the real thing. Hopefully, as machines get better at creating them, they will also get better at identifying the fakes.
fmfamaral··on Using the iPad Pro as my main computer
This is becoming more and more tempting...
fmfamaral··on The good, the bad and the ugly of machine translation for customer service
How long until this article is outdated and Machine Translation can get the meaning, context, peculiarities, tone of voice, irony, etc.. ?

5 years? 10 years? Never?

fmfamaral··on Computer says no – Why my dad hates automation in customer support
I find myself choosing the toll with the human operator, because the one with a machine fails to read my card all the time and says stupid things. However, I feel much better when I have a device in the car and I just drive through it without stopping. So, I will always choose automation, if it's well implemented and saves me time. Sorry humans, it's only a matter of time.

fmfamaral··on Hone your tone of voice: A linguistic perspective on how to talk to customers
The end of the article points at cultural differences that need to be taken into account. Like someone said in this thread: know your audience!
