illusive4080··on OpenSSH 10.6p2 has been released with a workaround for a critical vulnerability
Avoid this kind of behavior on HN; we are not the community for attacking each other. Your comment is not helpful to further the conversation. You could have made a point about subscriptions being antithetical to the ethos of open source culture, but instead you attacked the user and mocked him/her.
illusive4080··on Sshole
From the other thread’s source [1], it affects musl without PAM. You can set PasswordAuthentication=no or update to remediate.

illusive4080··on Awesome repositories are no longer awesome
Completely disagree. When AI was new I found so many great tools through awesome-* repositories. There was some of that going on for sure, but most lists were a curation of good tools.
illusive4080··on 512GB Mac Studio
Probably 64GB MacBook Pro and run a 27B model on it comfortably.
illusive4080··on Node2Shell evolves to HTTP2Shell, blast radius affects many HTTP libs and apps
Yep, this website was blocked at my work all day yesterday despite me submitting it for review.
illusive4080··on Broccoli2Shell: Brotli decoder RCE in Node.js, Python and more
Why do critical vulnerabilities get a cutesy name and website nowadays? Who’s paying for these sites?
illusive4080··on Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France
Similar misunderstandings have led to Cloudflare blockages during soccer matches in Spain.
illusive4080··on JDK 28
Startup time depends on whether you are using Spring heavily or not. I wouldn’t use it as a shell script replacement. Use Python to that end.
illusive4080··on OpenCode 2.0
Then name it, because not everyone knows about it. Another commenter said it might be omp.
illusive4080··on Apple may have an iPhone 18 Pro demand problem
Simple: 17 Pro was near perfection and sold like hot cakes. People are not upgrading.
illusive4080··on FDA may allow some toxic chemicals to be added to food without safety review
Explain the term “Plant Slant” please. I don’t follow.
illusive4080··on US closely monitoring case of lab worker who possibly died of plague in Siberia
Yeah well I got Covid before I was able to get the vaccine and I was just fine. And yet the admin still tried to force me to get the vaccine despite my body building antibodies (aka immunity) against the virus, protecting me.
illusive4080··on Norway Eyes Partial Ban of Smart Glasses
Now, only criminals have nmap in these such jurisdictions.
illusive4080··on Norway Eyes Partial Ban of Smart Glasses
Single party consent empowers those who are underhanded in uneven situations. For instance, the ability to secretly record my employer, who has far more resources than me, benefits me. I personally benefited in being able to defend myself by using single-party consent for audio recording, which helped me both avoid legal trouble and would have allowed me to offer more evidence had it ever come to actual legal action.

There are two sides to privacy laws, and the downside is not often discussed.

illusive4080··on US closely monitoring case of lab worker who possibly died of plague in Siberia
They politicized their own work.
illusive4080··on US closely monitoring case of lab worker who possibly died of plague in Siberia
It’s not nearly as black and white as you lay out. Despite evidence of immunity after contracting COVID, the prior administration continued to pursue a vaccination mandate through OSHA. Additionally arbitrary rules and limitations such as the 6’ rule were routinely parroted by public health authorities and state governments. That’s in addition to what another commenter pointed out about the mask flip flopping.
illusive4080··on What is going on with ceiling fans
I have both in the same room and use them for different purposes.
illusive4080··on What is going on with ceiling fans
It’s not stupid. The combo is very nice and convenient. I like the combo, just not the coupling of power. Light fan combos have been around forever and have worked fine for many decades.
illusive4080··on What is going on with ceiling fans
I also like longer videos, but the information density he delivers versus Veritasium or Smarter Every Day on a similar length video is much lower.
illusive4080··on What is going on with ceiling fans
The problem is almost all the LED fans can’t be controlled with a second switch. It’s infuriating.
illusive4080··on What is going on with ceiling fans
His 1-hour videos could normally be condensed into 20 minutes of content, maximum. I think he has mostly good takes (some bad ones), but I’ve ceased watching because he doesn’t know how to make a point in a reasonable amount of words.
illusive4080··on What is going on with ceiling fans
Even if you can find one, good luck finding a fan that supports using a separate fan switch in the wall.

I resorted to buying a “smart” fan, pulling credentials for it, blocking it from all internet access, and controlling it exclusively with Home Assistant and the remote control it came with. These things are so flimsy nowadays and I couldn’t find anything of decent quality.

illusive4080··on Be careful what you measure
Title should be changed to the post title. “Lambda Land” means nothing to me.
illusive4080··on 56k.rip – the 1996 dial-up internet experience
Cool, but webpages load too fast.
illusive4080··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
Happens a lot less on HN. While HN isn’t perfect, people are usually respectful to each other.
illusive4080··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
You’re precisely right. In corporate purchases many times it’s not the best product that is bought but instead the one that can answer yes to the most questions.
illusive4080··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
On the other hand, as a Christian Conservative, I used to have people sniping my profile and replying nastily to me when I commented on completely unrelated topics, just because my ideals didn’t align with theirs. Or, auto banning me from subs based on which subs I commented to. In that way, hiding my profile has helped me, because Reddit as a whole is extremely left wing.

Unfortunately, what you state is also true and it is now harder to avoid replying to bots, obvious shills, or trolls.

illusive4080··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
I believe Microsoft’s target audience is the layman who is not an AI user but rather a regular user who wants a quick answer.
illusive4080··on Whoisinspace.com/
Stating Christian ideals like intelligent design is definitely something I’d expect from a Christian.
