jasonjamerson··on Microsoft Copilot shows AI increasingly appears like an unwanted party guest
"Appears like" is not correct. You could say "looks like," but that's not the title of this article.
jasonjamerson··on Borne Back Ceaselessly into the Past: Fitzgerald, Gatsby and WWI
Gatsby is great, of course, but for me, "This Side of Paradise" is far better. Underappreciated.
jasonjamerson··on GIMP 3.0
I opened GIMP once. I won't do it again until somebody compares a UI update to Blender's big one. 2.9?
jasonjamerson··on 'The Pitt', 'Accused, 'Poker Face', 'Elsbeth' Fixed-Fee Cast Salaries
We're going to see a lot of changes like this as the legacy media structure continues to lose its hold on the global attention budget. There will be multiple layers of major consolidation, and dramatically reduced budgets.

Fortunately, the variety of content will increase, and some of it will be higher quality than the average big media piece, as smaller teams create passion projects. Overall budgets will shrink, but advances in technology will (hopefully) allow the production quality to stay relatively high.

jasonjamerson··on Apple put the Magic Mouse's charging port on the bottom again
They don't want people using it while plugged in. They care more about how that would look antiquated than they do about convenience.
jasonjamerson··on Things to know about the Great Wave
Oh nice. Thanks!
jasonjamerson··on Why 4x8 and 6x8 are, surprisingly, some of the hardest times tables to remember
I was forced (thankfully) to commit everything under 12x12 to just rote memory, is that not widespread?
jasonjamerson··on Things to know about the Great Wave
Interesting. It's a woodblock print, so I think it would have been created backwards from the final product?
jasonjamerson··on Meta cancels high-end mixed reality headset after Apple Vision Pro struggles
I would buy this today if it filmed horizontal video.
jasonjamerson··on Roku update turns on hated motion-smoothing feature, with no off switch
The content creator should decide the frame rate. Higher real fps I can get behind. But I don't want a third tier middle man making up fake frames.
jasonjamerson··on Descent 3 Source Code
A mouse for Descent? We used to play with both hands on the keyboard- look, slide, and spin on the number pad, move, fire, etc. on the far left side. We're we alone?
jasonjamerson··on What Researchers Discovered When They Sent 80k Resumes
Why didn't they make the resumes identical? Todd's is much easier to read quickly.
jasonjamerson··on Political Graffiti in Georgian Britain
That's a heavily photoshopped image for a 1771 citation.
jasonjamerson··on US salaries are falling. Employers say compensation is just 'resetting'
Wasn't there a labor shortage?
jasonjamerson··on Generating transparent images using Stable Diffusion XL
Good AI rotoscoping is welcome any time.
jasonjamerson··on Millennials to become the richest generation, after $90T wealth transfer
After 2044.
jasonjamerson··on In-space manufacturing market set to propel exponentially by 2040
Bold claim that payload cost will fall enough to take materials up, make display panels and import them back to Earth.

I think in-space manufacturing will be about two things for a long time: making things for space, like concrete out of regolith, and bringing things down that are rare on Earth, like precious metals.

jasonjamerson··on Client did not pay? Add opacity and decrease it until their site fades away
Not paying is unprofessional and grounds for a lawsuit.
jasonjamerson··on Apple hits "all-time high" smartphone market share, takes #1 spot for 2023
They certainly hyped them, but I hate mine. The post processing is way over the top, for one thing. And the raw images are just terrible.
jasonjamerson··on Switch off bad TV settings
I went back and watched content that had been jarring, and it's fixed. My wife, for whom all this is instinctual as opposed to technical, is able to watch now without feeling sick. IDK, it's weird.
jasonjamerson··on Switch off bad TV settings
Important to know that Roku has an "adjust frame rate to content native rate" which, insanely, is off by default. It will make up frames on all content by default if it's less than what your TV is capable of. I just got a new LG C3, and this was making us nauseous until I figured it out. I thought it was the TV, but unbelievably it was the Roku.
jasonjamerson··on Warner Bros. Keeps Cancelling Finished Movies
For many movies the marketing and related costs of release are as much as the budget to make them.
jasonjamerson··on Photoshop Is Now on the Web
If you know that Photopea was developed by a single dev, this article is comedy gold.
jasonjamerson··on Greek Temples Made of Wood
I have been trying to figure out the origin of egg and dart for years. This is an interesting direction to explore, I guess with some artistic license over centuries I could see that it evolved from the tip points of structural members. Maybe the rings of a wooden pole splitting from drying out.
jasonjamerson··on A saltwater wedge is moving up the drought-drained Mississippi River
Archive link?
jasonjamerson··on Sweden turns to military to help police combat gang crime
Archive link?
jasonjamerson··on School board's library weeding process: 'Empty shelves with no books'
Whether this is insanity or evil, I don't know, but it needs to be stopped.
jasonjamerson··on China’s new map outrages its neighbors
No link to the map, no picture of the whole map. Unbelievable.
jasonjamerson··on The Rival to the Panama Canal That Was Never Built
It's probably worth it to Nicaragua to play along, any dollar spent in the country is a big deal.
jasonjamerson··on Amazon's overcomplicated new product star ratings are no bright idea
I was so confused by this yesterday. I want to see the number of ratings compared to the average rating. That's how I know if a large number of people have tested this product and reviewed it properly. This system seems designed to hide that. You have to open every product to see that info.
