Who can forget Carlton Egremont III's Mr. Bunny's Big Cup o' Java ?
ludicrousdispla··on Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production
I was going to make a joke about ludicrous speed, but then remembered that automatic dishwashers for restaurants typically clean dishes in under two minutes.
ludicrousdispla··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
I worked for a lab that was building a new computer room and it spent about a year in the permitting process with the local town council before getting approved. Most of the focus in that process was on the geothermal cooling system.
ludicrousdispla··on North Korean fake job interview led to $6.3B Binance heist
I don't even use my home PC for interviews, but instead use a refurbed laptop with a clean OS install.
ludicrousdispla··on It wasn't AI that flipped Proton's charge
I read the AI 'manifesto' that the CTO posted and I have to say I'm very much not impressed.

There are several different approaches they could have taken to leverage AI to create a more secure product for their users, but there was no mention of it.

As a long-time paying Proton customer I have regularly given them feedback to stop with the AI features and instead asked them to focus on improving their core products (mail, vpn, drive)

I'm not sure that the CEO and CTO each have the job that they want to have. I'm hoping the board gets rid of them this week.

ludicrousdispla··on AI isn't replacing SREs, it's deskilling them
yeah, I am a software developer, not a system administrator.

In the early days of devops it was primarily focused on supporting developer productivity (CI/CD) but quickly morphed into sysadmin once cloud computing took off.

ludicrousdispla··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
My new analogy for AI is that it produces an elaborate lunch buffet containing so many floral arrangements that considerable effort must be expended to find the food being served.
ludicrousdispla··on The Best Monopoly Strategy, Tested on 300M Games [video]
I got that message loud and clear when playing this the first time.
ludicrousdispla··on Ask HN: If the models are so good, why doesn't OpenAI just start 100 companies?
frontier models are good because they can make stuff that is believable, but that doesn't mean the stuff they make is valuable.
ludicrousdispla··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case

ludicrousdispla··on Food processing influences metabolism and brain activity
I would think that a simple steak is a whole food, but I have no idea what would be in a SimpleSteak™
ludicrousdispla··on Religious scholars met with Anthropic
>> AI is truly a once in a civilization event.

Aren't we on our 3rd or 4th iteration of AI at this point?

ludicrousdispla··on What is going on with ceiling fans
I bet a matrix of cpu fans mounted to the ceiling would work rather well, rgb lighting is optional.
ludicrousdispla··on Nazi Germany had no hope of making an atomic bomb, uranium cubes reveal
maybe he'd just consider it a hyperbolic statement
ludicrousdispla··on Installing NeoVim caused original Vim undo files to be deleted
maybe they tried to undo the change, but were not able to
ludicrousdispla··on Woman Arrested, Dragged Away After Speaking About Flock at City Council Meeting
For Spain it would probably be Catalan Independence, for France any mention of air conditioning technologies, and for Italy it's pineapple on pizza.
ludicrousdispla··on IKEA made a mod for Skyrim [video]
Play a game long enough and the main challenge becomes inventory management. I look forward to the IVAR update.
ludicrousdispla··on Who Dung It? (Turdle.fun)
The second and third attempts are much less difficult.
ludicrousdispla··on Who Dung It? (Turdle.fun)
how do I submit a 'contribution'
ludicrousdispla··on Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf]
Unfortunately, the current leadership in AI and tech more generally seems unconcerned with reputational risks.
ludicrousdispla··on I refused to train the AI that could replace me
But they wrote the article on principle, and that has a greater impact.
ludicrousdispla··on Ask HN: Would you read a statistics textbook?
I took my first statistics class as an evening course, before going to graduate school, and 90% of the work involved doing hand calculations, avg., variance, std. dev., z-scores, t-tests, etc. And I think that gave me a strong grasp of those fundamentals.

If you could do something similar for bayesian statistics I think that would be useful, but not necessarily popular.

ludicrousdispla··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
While reading your comment it occurred to me that virtually all reporting on (or talking about) science involves applying it to an unsuitable context. Schrödinger's cat is probably the most prolific example of this.
ludicrousdispla··on Hacking IKEA Furniture
You should add some RGB backlighting to it.
ludicrousdispla··on Hacking IKEA Furniture
The one criticism I can offer on IKEA furniture is that some of it doesn't move well, specifically the particle board stuff which will fall apart at the joints if it's not carefully handled.

Having said that, I also tend to not buy the particle board stuff.

I'd prefer it if IKEA offered more options (dimensionally) on their durable furnishings.

ludicrousdispla··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
I credit Minecraft with getting an entire generation comfortable using command line statements.
ludicrousdispla··on Bug Blindness
I think at least half of the software developers out there simply don't test their code in the final product (or at all). And why would they when their revision is being reviewed in a pull request?
