markgavalda··on Bitcoin Suisse CEO: Switzerland has lost interest in cryptocurrencies
It's not just Switzerland. It's mostly everybody at this point.
markgavalda··on Ask HN: Will apps be going away in favor of personal assistants?
Some of them for sure! It's so much easier for me personally to just tell the currently-preferred-LLM-model or agent to do something for me instead of dealing with apps and dashboards!
markgavalda··on Retired professor arrested for blocking delivery robot. Will do it again
No way her name is actually Marvin? What a perfect coincidence! Is "Marvin" destined to become the robot age's answer to "Karen"? :-) Those poor souls, forever tormented by their aching diodes...
markgavalda··on Retired professor arrested for blocking delivery robot. Will do it again
The fact that her name is actually Marvin is chefs-kiss.

markgavalda··on Show HN: Qwen3-4B with the AI writing tics trained out
Agreed. In the upper right corner there's a "hide" button that I immediately clicked. Then read (ok, skim read) the article.

markgavalda··on Ask HN: What did you do or read this weekend that wasn't related to the OpenAI?
Watched The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix. One of the best TV shows in recent memory if you ask me!
markgavalda··on Ask HN: Any alternatives to Duolingo without gamification?
This is an amazing idea! I use a much more rudimentary version of this to read (and learn along the way) multiple languages. My favorite method so far.
markgavalda··on Twitter value keeps falling under Musk, now worth a third of what he paid
It's a private company. So any valuation is just a guess now.
markgavalda··on Rodney Brooks on GPT-4
I was curious and I have the browsing module for GPT4 so I tried to get it to name the top 3 cards, the following is what it came up with after like 10 minutes of back and forth and it browsing a lot of sites. I don't know if this is any good as I know nothing about the game. Do these cards even exist?

Talons of Lightning: This is a major power card with an energy cost of 6. It's a fast card with a range of 1 from Sacred Site. It targets any land and deals 4 damage. If you meet its threshold requirement (3 Air and 2 Fire), it deals +3 damage and destroys all Dahan 1 2 . Tsunami: This is another major power card with an energy cost of 6. It's a slow card with a range of 2 from the ocean. It affects every coastal land in one board, dealing 6 damage to each. If you meet its threshold requirement (3 Water and 3 Earth), it deals +4 damage and adds 2 fear per land where it destroys any towns or cities 3 4 . Blazing Renewal: A major power card with an energy cost of 5. It's a fast card with a range of 0, measured from any land. It targets any land, allows you to gather up to 2 of your destroyed presence, and deals 2 damage per presence gathered. If you meet its threshold requirement (4 Fire and 2 Earth), it deals +10 damage 5 6 .

markgavalda··on Giant Kites That Drag Cargo Ships Across Oceans Go on Trial
The improvement here is that it can go as high as 300m (1000ft) and winds are much stronger there. And once you're done or approaching the harbor you can furl it in and never think about it again. Sails... not so much. Especially on ships of this size!
markgavalda··on The Impending Cloud Reshuffle
I agree, however I really like what https://firecracker-microvm.github.io/ is doing to change the above.
markgavalda··on The US Is Going into Hyperinflation
Unless you expect other countries to be in the same (or even worse) situation...
markgavalda··on Ask HN: I've been writing a weekly newsletter for 164 weeks––what can I improve?

markgavalda··on Linux Mint Dumps Ubuntu Snap
We've only had problems with snap so far, constantly. Kudos to Mint for doing the right thing for their users.
markgavalda··on Amazon EC2 C5a Instances Powered by 2nd Gen AMD EPYC Processors Now Available
Mostly Intel hardware though if I'm not mistaken?
markgavalda··on Ask HN: What are the other websites you visit daily?

markgavalda··on A human monoclonal 1 antibody blocking SARS-CoV-2 infection
It's the other way around though: it's not them or their creation that is killing the patient, it's the virus. There's a big difference between their creation being unable to save the patient and actively killing them.
markgavalda··on Ask HN: What are you thankful for?
That is so rare that an extended family like that gets along that well, I'm so happy to hear that it's actually possible, kudos to you all!
markgavalda··on Firm fat-fingered G Suite and deleted data, escalates support ticket to lawsuit
So let me get this straight: they deleted their own account and because they didn't have any backups (because why would they) they're suing Google now. That's gonna end well.
markgavalda··on One Day With the Squad That Removes Needles and Feces From Downtown Portland
No it doesn't. Watch this for a full picture of what's happening in Seattle and a proposed, humane and actually effective solution at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpAi70WWBlw
markgavalda··on Norway’s Island with a Population of 1
Lofoten is unique. The rise of social media, the non-stop posts of its picturesque landscape sells it to the masses. The infrastructure is better, it's bigger and there are a lot of inhabitants, hotels and whatnot. Solund is tiny compared to the Lofoten region.

markgavalda··on Peter Thiel “Drop Out of School Project”: Did It Fail?
This article is from 2013... that's why it's missing Ethereum et al.
markgavalda··on IBM has decided to co-locate its US marketing department
Why not simply fire those who they don't want to work with anymore? They're clearly used to do that at IBM and it would be much more controlled and cost effective.
