mimischi··on 3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit
> both ethically and financially/career-wise, imo.

And, most importantly, you weren’t sent to the slaughterhouse and are still alive, thanks to your choice.

mimischi··on Five months treating bugs like patients and coding agents like a medical team
If I wanted to build something like this, at least conceptually with the roles, where’d I start? My first guess would be to give Claude your blog post; but any other pointers to make it work reliably? Do you happen to have the system open source?
mimischi··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
In today’s day and age I read the OP as saying that threw an LLM at the extension repo and had it reimplement/improve upon for a private fork of theirs.
mimischi··on 'We hacked the FBI:' Hackers say they have data on all FBI employees
Do you remember every sandwich or just this one in particular?
mimischi··on Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac: The future of supercars is combustion engines
This but for motorbikes. I can’t stand people riding them through residential areas in London late at night, revving their engines.
mimischi··on Emacs 31: An unofficial guide to Markdown-ts-mode
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMac

Setting up a keyboard replacement is the way to go here. Solves the issue for all devices.

mimischi··on Two German airport workers die of malaria after 'mosquito arrives on plane'
I thought anything in the US is ridiculous amounts of money, when it’s related to health/hospital.
mimischi··on Anthropic tells staff to work from home due to possible security team strike
Maybe the editor is from Germany DACH, or similar?). A trillion is a billion in that language.
mimischi··on Anthropic IPO filing will show AI backlash as a risk factor, sources say
Care to explain how this relates to Leopold? I know they hold some stake in Anthropic, but I’m not proficient enough in the topic to jump to the conclusion you’re alluding to.
mimischi··on Building an (almost) fully self-hosted, sandboxed, agentic software factory
I can relate to this feeling, having encountered it many times in academia. But the inverse would also be true, would you stop reading yet another article that explains for the umpteenth time what library Y does? Not arguing for the author, but there’s certainly something about knowing and writing for your audience.
mimischi··on HackEurope 2026: A short rant on AI and hackathons
The animation in the background is fun, but really impairs readability on mobile. At least there’s Reader mode in browsers, but a pity that the original form isn’t accessible!
mimischi··on AI isn’t outthinking mathematicians, it’s out-remembering them
> „[…] but the fact is many PhD students do still graduate with very unexamined understanding of science, cognition, philosophy, etc.”

Is there some generally accepted definition what it should take to graduate with a PhD?

mimischi··on An all-sky map of half a million supermassive black holes
Why are some areas more observed than others then?
mimischi··on 200 Milliseconds
Agreed. This reeks LLM writing with no human oversight, or at least a human with no writing experience. The text underneath “The Click” is an immediate giveaway:

> Five milliseconds of hardware and browser bookkeeping before a single byte leaves the laptop.

I don’t even know how to describe it, but the “[…] before X” sentence style stands out to me.

mimischi··on Nano Banana 2 removed from Google Earth
Is this the fastest Google has killed one of its own products (features)?
mimischi··on Decathlon Germany adds Wero payment option to decathlon.de website
The article headline screams Claude to me, is that just me? I am as bullish as can be on AI usage, but I’m either hallucinating myself or this is the classic AI “not this, but that” phrase that I keep reading all day.

> Decathlon didn’t just add a new payment button to its German checkout page. It handed European banks their first big-box sporting goods test case at a moment when competition in digital payments is intensifying and the push for EU-made payment infrastructure is growing.

mimischi··on Decathlon Germany adds Wero payment option to decathlon.de website
You are in for a ride with Denglish [1], but also “senden“ is a real word [2] — it is unclear to me from your rant if you’re trying to speak from a position of authority or are just venting for no obvious reason.

mimischi··on My Emacs Configuration (Dired)
I think that’s what many enjoy—and probably why many other steer away from—Emacs: its malleability. It has some defaults that are grounded in some usecase that have persisted for decades, and to change them would take hours of arguing on the mailing list.. or you could just change the defaults yourself to your liking.
mimischi··on Fake food delivery site for the dopamine
Does this have the ridiculous dark patterns that Deliveroo in the UK has? “Pay a monthly fee for free deliveries!*

*We won’t tell you, but you might notice, we’ve now increased the service charge by almost the amount of what you saved on that free delivery.

mimischi··on Human Emacs
And yet, the Emacs community appears more vibrant than ever with many AI-assisted/-related projects (ghostty.el and agent-shell.el, among others) thriving and bringing a fresh wind into the ecosystem!
mimischi··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
Danke Merkel!

mimischi··on Sick leave: Germany rising but not the worst in Europe
For clarification, “default” above doesn’t mean “In Berlin you get insured with TK by default”, and rather “Most people in Berlin will recommend choosing TK over a different state-mandated insurer”. TK was also very popular when I was back in university in Frankfurt. It might just still be the one with reasonable prices!
mimischi··on Ask HN: What are tools you have made for yourself since the advent of AI?
I’d be curious about that web to kindle one you built. Mind sharing?
mimischi··on Siri AI
Some of your points are addressed by: https://github.com/apple/password-manager-resources
mimischi··on Meta launches Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp subscriptions
Except it wasn’t for all users. IIRC it either didn’t show for all, or it was the WinRAR equivalent of you being able to say “maybe later” and it left you alone for a long while.
mimischi··on AWS North Virginia data center outage – resolved
At the rate that people claim AWS us-east to go down, folks will argue that OVH has a tendency to go up in flames!
mimischi··on I have officially retired from Emacs
Can you describe your setup on how you use LLMs within Emacs?
mimischi··on Bet on German Train Delays
For context, David Kriesel gave the infamous talk called “BahnMining” at 36C3 highlighting this. IIUC it’s only available in German: https://youtu.be/0rb9CfOvojk
mimischi··on Claude's Cycles [pdf]
What makes you think that? Genuine question, as I’ve not flagged it as such in my mind.
mimischi··on The AI boom is causing shortages everywhere else
Ok I’ll bite. Was it worth it? What have people missed that haven’t used it.
