mvikramaditya··on I No Longer Need StackOverflow
I presume you mean this? http://xkcd.com/378/
mvikramaditya··on Yahoo mail hacked
Could be that the typical Yahoo mail user is less technically savvy than the users of other email providers and more prone to making mistakes which makes it easier for the account to be hacked.
mvikramaditya··on Why was this secret?
What the author seems to be missing is that most of what we keep secret can be taken by someone with a malicious intent and used against us. This is a major reason some things are best kept private.
mvikramaditya··on Show HN: Handkommando – Real-time multiplayer RPS game
Thanks, its not very clear. And the mashing just gets harder as you see the red increase. You just helped some people avoid RSI :)
mvikramaditya··on Show HN: Handkommando – Real-time multiplayer RPS game
I'm not sure whether its timing based or whether you just need to mash buttons like hell? If it is turn based it makes sense, but not much I can do with 300 ms latency as I watch the bar flying by getting redder and redder.

edit: Seems like its just button mashing. Seems hard to keep up the mashing with high latency, as the other person just plain reacts almost half a seconds before you.

Here is an extract from MS' statement regarding this:

"To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls. "

mvikramaditya··on Why I’ll Never Return to Singapore
I meant the attributes that we measure progress by. Quoted straight from the article - "It leads the world in education, banking, shipping and has created a everyday existence of unrivaled cleanliness, safety and stability"
mvikramaditya··on Why I’ll Never Return to Singapore
The article seems to be a summary of the consequences of modern living, and the loss of "community", "fun" and "enjoyment" which goes along with it.
mvikramaditya··on Why I’ll Never Return to Singapore
Nowhere in the article does the author blame this for the perceived issues he mentions. In fact from his tone, this seems to be a positive in the way Singapore has improved in modern terms.
mvikramaditya··on Isowall: Mini-firewall that completely isolates a device from the local network
Paraphrasing from the article, this tool allows the machine to have internet access while being isolated from the local network.
mvikramaditya··on Now Weather - just released, visual weather app for iPhone
I second this. There are plenty of free, accurate and beautiful weather apps available. I was kind of hoping there would be a page which shows what _unique_ features this app provides which would be worth paying for. The features listed are available in most mainstream weather apps.
mvikramaditya··on Airlines offer no-crying sections
This immediately reminded me of theoatmeal's cartoon on how commercial planes should be laid out :)

mvikramaditya··on Is This The Future of The Airline Website?
I'd rather that Airline Websites use their time in improving the usability of their site by using autocomplete suggestions instead of drop-down lists of hundreds of cities, save information in case of failed payments etc rather than make the site beautiful but non-usable.
mvikramaditya··on Thanks For The Identity Theft, Yahoo
Am I missing something? You only lose accounts which you are not using, correct? It is easy enough to avoid losing the account by logging into it once. If you have lost access to the account, you can go ahead and reclaim the same account back through this scheme, if I am not mistaken. Could someone please explain why people are getting so worked up about this issue?
mvikramaditya··on Browser Pong
Wasn't this one of the original "Chrome Experiments"? I remember there being quite a lot of them, most of which were fun to play with.
mvikramaditya··on Are coders worth it?
TL;DR version (Taken from the article):

A CFO is paid more than the coal miner because the skills required to be CFO of a Fortune 500 company are scarcer, and more wanted, than the skills required to be a coal miner. It’s the combination of scarcity and wantedness that drives up a salary. Coders (Read web-developers in the authors case) are paid more because of a demand for them which the author tries to understand.

mvikramaditya··on Show HN: Share your screen from within Gmail with Screenleap browser extension
Doesn't Google Hangout provide the same feature? Is there any reason for installing a third party extension for sharing your screen?
mvikramaditya··on Leap Motion - Say goodbye to your mouse and keyboard
A little hyperbole never hurt anyone :) But yes, I do not see it replacing the keyboard.
mvikramaditya··on Leap Motion - Say goodbye to your mouse and keyboard
Looks exciting, but kickstarter has taught us to be vary of products until actually delivered. Hope it lives up to expectations.
mvikramaditya··on Yahoo Axis
"In your experience".

Ever considered others might have had a different experience? I took it for a spin (iPad2) and it seems pretty nice actually - and yes, it did not crash. I don't see it as a replacement for Safari, but it looks perfect for leisure browsing.

mvikramaditya··on Neuroscientists create computer program that can decode your thoughts
Scary. If research progresses to a stage where its actually able to pick up thoughts rather than sound processing, this sort of technology might be used for interrogation. Imagine drilling holes into the prisoners skull to try and pick up this thoughts.
mvikramaditya··on Raspberry Pi ($25 PC) GPU beats Tegra 2, doubles iPhone 4S performance
The day is not far off when we can run our own distributed processing clusters at home for a ridiculously cheap price.
mvikramaditya··on The Re-birth of Microsoft
Sigh. You find Grammar Nazis everywhere nowadays. And yes you are right. My mistake.
mvikramaditya··on The Re-birth of Microsoft
I would like to know how much the Author was paid to write this?

mvikramaditya··on IBM was granted 6,180 US patents in 2011, Apple? 676 Samsung 4894 No. 2
More than the quantity, quality and the actual implementation of these patents matter.

Like the old joke goes, why take the trouble of implementing your idea when you cant patent it and live off royalties?

mvikramaditya··on Allwinner A10: A GPL-compliant computer for $15
Do any of the similar low cost products actually have a success story? Or do they all get hyped to death and end up failing?
mvikramaditya··on Gorilla Glas 2
Not directly related to the article, but I find it weird that all advertisements always quantify their measurements with "up to" - In this case "up to 20% thickness reduction". If it is 20% in a majority of designs/uses, say so, or give it as an average of 15% or some such. I always feel "up to" means "best case, carefully controlled laboratory tests which has no application in the real world"
mvikramaditya··on MG on Google+ integration : Misdirection, Doublespeak And Bad Decisions
I wonder if the author realizes that Twitter and Facebook ask the Google crawler not to crawl their data which conforms to the rules:

https://twitter.com/robots.txt Disallow: /search Disallow: /? Disallow: //with_friends

Similar rules apply for Facebook as well. This is why the deal between Google and Twitter was needed in the first place. Given that Twitter cancelled the deal and not Google, I don't see any other way for Google to get into social search other than beg Facebook and Twitter for access to their data again.
