pdaddyo··on Call it a comeback: Turntable.fm raises $7.5M
I built and host an open source project that sounds very similar, but instead uses Spotify Connect to play via any spotify device:

pdaddyo··on Show HN: React Flow – library for creating node based editors and apps
I've been using this the last few weeks on a synthesizer side project and it's been absolutely fantastic. A well designed API and easy to customise, excellent docs and sane defaults. Bravo!

pdaddyo··on BitBar: Put the output of any script on your macOS menu bar
I use this to show my type-1 son's continuous glucose monitor graph & numbers: https://github.com/pdaddyo/bitbar-nightscout. Wonderful tool!
pdaddyo··on Show HN: Anycomplete
This is great, thanks for sharing. I've opened a pull request (#5) with a tweak I made here - hold shift whilst choosing an option to actually show the google results instead of pasting. Hammerspoon looks fantastic, can't wait to automate even more!
pdaddyo··on Botnet Controls “Twitch Installs Arch Linux”
Creator JRWR confirmed botnet in irc channel: https://i.imgur.com/qaWFUEH.jpg
pdaddyo··on CefSharp – Embedded Chromium for .NET
I've been using this for about a year on the Windows version of my social Spotify client, Soundbounce (www.soundbounce.org). I've been nothing but impressed with how easy it was to integrate and how well it runs (once you get over Chrome's memory use), so kudos to the dev team here.
pdaddyo··on Netflix Is Betting Its Future on Exclusive Programming
Bloodline is absolutely fantastic, I've been recommending it to all my friends. I can't praise it enough - also glad there's a second season coming in 2016. Apparently the creators (KZK) have a 6-season arc planned...

Funnily enough, Google Now's voice search was originally called "Project Majel" for that reason - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Now#History
pdaddyo··on Mono for Unreal Engine
But it does solve their biggest issue - ultimately enabling Unity projects to publish to the web without plugins (WebGL / javascript).

Once all code in a Unity project eventually ends up as C++ (even if it started as C#), they can leverage Emscripten, asm.js and related technologies to enable Unity devs to use C# in the editor, which is converted to C++, and ultimately Javascript. It seems crazy, but it might just work!

pdaddyo··on Citymapper is what happens when you understand user experience
Since Google now own Waze, hopefully these features will be heading to maps soon.
pdaddyo··on Seeding torrents from S3

"For Basic accounts, the total amount of traffic that all of your links together can generate without getting banned is 20 GB per day. For Pro and Business accounts, the limit is 200 GB per day."

pdaddyo··on Netflix to get its own ‘cable channel’ next week
For those interested, this is achieved using a standard called CEC that works over the HDMI connection.

pdaddyo··on Valve demonstrates Steam Controller [video]
With some acceleration it could - finer control with small movements, but quick movements provide more travel. Not sure how well this would work, but I like Apple's implementation on their trackpad (I realise I may be in the minority here!).
pdaddyo··on Poll: Which RSS reader have you switched to?
Agreed, the extension was very invasive and broke Chrome in many frustrating ways. Memory usage was also off the charts, and that's not something I usually pay much attention to in a browser. I'll try Yoleo, I had not heard of that.
pdaddyo··on Elon Musk: Boeing 787 battery fundamentally unsafe
Also nearly half of Feynmann's 2nd book "What Do You Care What Other People Think?" covers the shuttle enquiry in great detail.
pdaddyo··on Google Nexus 4 Sells Out In Less Than An Hour (in Australia)
I'm sure this is pointing out the obvious, but it's 'sold' from a Dublin address due to the corporation tax breaks. It's effectively one massive tax dodge - google / amazon / dell etc put all sales through Irish shell companies, really does boil my blood!
pdaddyo··on Linus Torvalds: Make 2560x1600 the new standard laptop resolution
I picked one up last weekend and it's surprisingly quick, at least whilst playing with things like WebGL and three.js.
pdaddyo··on AnandTech: Microsoft Surface Review
I presume you just won't get the battery performance out of x86 version though? Surely it's going to struggle.

pdaddyo··on The Amazing iOS 6 Maps
Tagline is "The Apple iOS 6 Maps are amazing. Not."
pdaddyo··on New Actionscript compiler from Adobe
A classic early bug that lost me hours and hours:

if(true) // i've forced this to true now
  {

// this code is never reached because of that comment on the if() line

  }
pdaddyo··on Notch's next game is an MMO
Just so you're aware, there are now programmable computers in Minecraft courtesy of this plugin:

pdaddyo··on Netflix live in the UK
My Natwest card used to work, but in December it failed (Netflix saying I'm not a US customer).

I resolved it by using a proxy card from entropay.com, using this guide:

http://www.unblock-us.com/how-to-set-up/netflix

They take a percentage, but it's still cheaper than LoveFilm and I have it working on android, pc, ipad and PS3.

pdaddyo··on Netflix live in the UK
I'm in the UK and I'll continue to pay for access to the US Netflix, since it has a much larger instant library. Even though this works out more expensive, at around £10/month (I use a paid proxy called unblockus).
pdaddyo··on Ask HN: Your code editor, black on white or white on black?
I concur - I've been using this a while and it has made a huge difference to evenings spent in front of screens, and available on all platforms.
pdaddyo··on InstaCSS: the CSS docs you always wish you had
I'd use underscore.js's _.debounce method, simples!
pdaddyo··on UTorrent.com compromised, malware added to installer
Just since you mentioned Chrome's updating mechanism, it is a fascinating approach that they took: http://www.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/software...
pdaddyo··on Show HN: I am building a next-gen browser
Chrome can also do the auto-URL bar hiding; certainly in the latest dev build.

about:flags --> enable Compact Navigation

*edit: this was introduced in chrome v10 so is available on all channels, on windows at least.

pdaddyo··on Large-scale Amazon EC2 Outage
They're not mission critical failures, but that's not the point to me - I pay a monthly fee to have those snapshots there, and they just carved holes in them. Disappointing to say the least, even though it's not actually taken down any of our instances.
