pluralmonad··on Basically no one is using AI agents for their DoorDash orders
Convenience is the root of all evil. I know people say it is money. But what is money if not the ultimate convenience?
pluralmonad··on Self-Employed? Solopreneur? NIST Has a Cybersecurity Guide Just for You
What is your go to heuristic / mental model you use when stripping down to the essential core? Lots of marginal items needing judgment calls. What was your guiding light?
pluralmonad··on A Chemical Hunger (2021)
It is the internet, so sometimes it is hard to tell what is serious vs ironic. The "environmental contaminant" that is making everyone fatter is sugar.
pluralmonad··on Northflank Breached
I suppose a smaller attack surface could be considered a sort of obscurity. Its also just practically less to defend.
pluralmonad··on Northflank Breached
Certainly. They are also larger targets.
pluralmonad··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
Always amusing to see this saying on _license plates_ of all places. Idk if a snake can look pathetic, but I always read them with a "please, mister," in front of them.
pluralmonad··on Somebody please stop the spam texts
I tell my friends and family to never use "unsubscribe" links unless they have a close relationship with the sender. How folks decided directing people to click links in spam email is beyond me.
pluralmonad··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
Saying yes is not equal to "provides the requested information." If you use models for affirmation instead of information, this is a more reasonable concern.
pluralmonad··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
The only winning move...
pluralmonad··on Google has officially turned these Nest thermostats back into dumb thermostats
My boycott has worked flawlessly.
pluralmonad··on eMudhra intermediate CA compromise
Privacy would mean dominoes not having your private data. Them having it and using it for marketing, and resale purposes, etc is not private.
pluralmonad··on It's still ok to enjoy programming
Very much agree. I am very explicit about real life dependency management because of years of knowing (being forcibly taught) how important it is for my dev work.
pluralmonad··on Ask HN: How to deal with shipping AI-written code you don't understand?
Existing abstractions can be easily applied to similar contexts, but designing abstractions seems backwards. The system abstractions should be grown and extracted from the working code. Idk how you know the right thing without going through the complexity of building it.
pluralmonad··on People of ACM – Russ Cox
Cloudflare says I'm not allowed to view the page. At least they are protected from "attacks."
pluralmonad··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
It seems normal for the target of forced resource extraction to not even view it as sharing, or see it in a positive light. Helping your neighbor when in need is one thing, being coerced into funding whatever some distant bureaucrat wants is another.
pluralmonad··on Claudette: Make Claude stop talking like a BuzzFeed article
And will reference transient working docs in code comments.

pluralmonad··on I Just Want to Search
I've used Protnmail before and had the same issue. I think enabling something like "full local indexing" or something made it better.
pluralmonad··on I Just Want to Search
CL is one of the final bastions of sane computer communities. Mostly by not trying to be a community.
pluralmonad··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
Sad to see how quickly the narrative has been pushed from "you should not collect this data" to a bunch of "we need common sense guardrails" comments.
pluralmonad··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
I think my vote might be broken. It keeps not working.
pluralmonad··on Ox Alpha
Stripe marketing blitz?
pluralmonad··on I like 'em thick: an apology to my English teachers
Also, depth does not necessarily mean substance. Holes in the ground have depth. I think thickness works well here.
pluralmonad··on AI didn't erase the junior engineer's value, it increased it it
Then does the original author own the changes you made to their PR, e2e? Do you get their signoff on them if that's the case?
pluralmonad··on Malicious Rust crate Arrayref runs a build-time payload
I think it was to make the tongue-in-cheek nature of the comment more apparent.
pluralmonad··on AI At Home Part 1: A Box Of Scraps
It amuses me to no end that colleagues have started using markdown for notes and documents. Thanks AI.
pluralmonad··on Lovable raises $400M Series C
Sign companies stay in business. Because every new startup restaurant wants its own sign. That particular restaurant being statistically doomed is actually a benefit to the sign company. I guess maybe you meant not sustainable for the half baked businesses. It seems like it could be sustainable for lovable.
pluralmonad··on GitHub Actions and Pages are experiencing degraded availability
Didn't github also migrate at azure recently? That certainly can't help.
pluralmonad··on Humans missed 1 in 3 threats approving AI agent commands across 40k game runs
I cannot imagine approving action by action ever again. Its emotionally draining, probably like a customer service rep feels it. Just call for your attention in rapid succession again and again... Prepare an environment and let the tool work.
pluralmonad··on Born Against, or why hobby programming communities are against LLM usage
Maybe no garbage collection is the back pressure missing from the voracious consumption machine.
pluralmonad··on Intelligence Is Not the Main Bottleneck
How do you make sure the thing you are hoping saves everyone has an inclination (or ability) to do so? How do you make sure it is only afflicted with the human parts you like and not the ones you don't?
