systemvoltage··on Incident with Github.com
Problem with Gitlab is that they will never stop adding features.
systemvoltage··on Zed DeltaDB
Snapshots have an intention behind them as a chunk that the programmer thought of. It has infinite flexibility depending on the programmer/team. IMO they are a necessary feature, but the article considers it a bug. It’s an explicit and deliberate chunking of code writing process which is what you want in a chaotic “collaborative” environment. The system doesn’t get to decide but you decide when to commit.
systemvoltage··on Claude Fable 5
It's interesting that we are seeing a time when subscriptions are not preferred and usage-based billing is.

Pay-as-you go isn't a common thing in SaaS. For example, except for AWS SES, all email providers are bulk-subscription based.

systemvoltage··on GoDaddy gave a domain to a stranger without any documentation
Any recommendations for a trustworthy registrar?
systemvoltage··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
Interesting. All 3 seems like they’re obviously going to impact quality. e.g, reducing the effort from high to medium.

So then, there must have been an explicit internal guidance/policy that allowed this tradeoff to happen.

Did they fix just the bug or the deeper policy issue?

systemvoltage··on Vercel April 2026 security incident
I am not following the logic. If you’re a hobbyist, sure.

But the argument is if you’re using Vercel for production, you’re paying 5-10x what you’d pay for a VM, with 4gb.

So then what’s the rationale? You can’t be a hobbyist but also “it’s pay time” for production?

systemvoltage··on AWS multiple services outage in us-east-1
What do you do if not AWS?
systemvoltage··on AWS multiple services outage in us-east-1
workos is down too, timing is highly correlated with AWS outage: https://status.workos.com/

That means Cursor is down, can't login.

systemvoltage··on Anthropic signs a $200M deal with the Department of Defense
What changed? 2017 HN would be very different on this take.
systemvoltage··on Hypercapitalism and the AI talent wars
No, I can’t find a single article praising wealth concentration.
systemvoltage··on Hypercapitalism and the AI talent wars
Not trolling. It has served me better than most heuristics.

If there is something subjective and if you cannot find a critique of it, it’s usually a super power to assume the opposite is true barring obvious exceptions.

systemvoltage··on Grok 4 Launch [video]
It encourages the 80% into group think. Flagging is a signifier that “you should not dare to think that was a good comment. Move on and don’t think for yourself”.
systemvoltage··on OpenAI to buy AI startup from Jony Ive
I agree somewhat, you can feel the tension on HN with respect to labor vs capital. Which is funny because the entire premise of YC is to infuse capital and get a huge leverage over bootstrappers.
systemvoltage··on Gukesh becomes the youngest chess world champion in history
Chess engines should come with another metric bar: "The twitchy-ness" of the position aka the gradient of primary eval metric as you pareto the possible moves from best to worst. The stronger this gradient, the more risky it is to play, and more changes to make a mistake.

systemvoltage··on SSL certificate lifetimes are going down. Dates proposed. 45 days by 2027
:-D Nice. The future we deserve. Now only if there was a company that was into one drop blood testing!
systemvoltage··on SSL certificate lifetimes are going down. Dates proposed. 45 days by 2027
We need more safetyism culture. We need to ban root access completely by 2030. 10-factor security for login. 256 digit OTP and you must insert a drop of blood to login.

At least, we’ll be super secure!

systemvoltage··on Starship Flight 5: Launch and booster catch [video]
https://x.com/marionawfal/status/1845351598874120662

I dug into it, found this clip. Elon says that it’s those two tiny knubs! Saw a few pictures and yes, I confirm, it’s not the grid fins.

systemvoltage··on Starship Flight 5: Launch and booster catch [video]
Do you know what the entire booster is hanging off of? It can't be the fins. How is the load transferred to the arms?
systemvoltage··on Starship Flight 5 [video]
Insane!
systemvoltage··on Starship Flight 5: Launch and booster catch [video]
Need to remove regulations instead and fast track SpaceX.

Every fucking time we don't need to increase the size of the Government. It only gets bigger. Never smaller.

systemvoltage··on Show HN: I've Built an Accounting System
It’s autist, I’ll allow it.
systemvoltage··on Why freedom of speech is a wicked problem
They still broadcast to millions of people despite of being occasionally wrong. Individuals can support them or not, they can be funded by other means (WaPo by Jeff Bezos). It doesn’t change the central point I was trying to make: they put out incorrect information to an extremely large audience. Often corrections are late and the damage is done. Viewership of correction is a few magnitude of orders less.

I am not advocating banning them. I was trying to make a point that by the extension of OP’s logic, the existence of press seems in line with their characterization.

systemvoltage··on Why freedom of speech is a wicked problem
By that extension, NYT or Fox News should be banned as they have and they do broadcast incorrect information all the time.
systemvoltage··on Hacking misconfigured AWS S3 buckets: A complete guide
No offense, but spending 200 hours on S3 and if you still don’t understand it, it’s a skill issue.
systemvoltage··on Bypassing airport security via SQL injection
If NYTimes or WSJ had any backbone or journalistic integrity, they would write a front page piece on this to fix our agencies from being defensive to bug reports, shed light to the horrid incompetency in these agencies and how there was no oversight to any of this. They would also protect the two individuals as white hat hackers and teach non-technical people that these are good guys. You know, the job of the press.
systemvoltage··on Ask HN: Imagine a world with 1Tb/s internet. What would change?
“Intel not giveth much, but Javascript Frameworks still taketh a lot”.
