Hi, I'm Tudor! For the last couple of years I've been the main maintainer of PGlite - PostgreSQL in WASM, you can see my work on gh (tdrz). I'm still working part time on it, so ideally I am looking for a second part-time engagement (2-3 days a week). Nevertheless, I am open to discuss a setup that works for you!

While PGlite has been my focus in the ~last year, I have also developed cophone.io from the ground up. This might be relevant for those looking for experienced devs with deep startup experience, can-do attitude and extreme ownership mentality. There's also a lot of tech in there that I've gotten to learn while putting it together (k8s, WebRTC, AOSP internals, qemu internals etc all the way to building my own GPU enabled, ARM64 servers).

Previously I have been contracting for various companies around the world, especially in the US, so I am used to working remote, setting goals and delivering quality work with minimal supervision. In a different life I've been the CTO of the startup/scaleup quitt.ch.

tdrz··on Why is AI generated language so hard to understand?
> But we have no test suites that answer "is this code maintainable" or "does this feature make sense in the context of our business", so AI still fails those tests.

I've been struggling with this because I do believe maintainability of code is important. But the way it is going, if AI is writing all the code and no human needs to read it anymore, does it really need to be maintainable? Does it matter if it looks like alien code since we can throw it away when using the next AI model? I have no answers of my own to these questions...

tdrz··on It's still ok to enjoy programming
Are there any other job openings there?
tdrz··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
One thing we need to do is gradually increase the legal age at which one can buy cigarettes, vapes etc. I'd say until it gets to about 26-28 yo, when you're ripe enough to know that it is better not to start at all.
tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
For security reasons, obviously! That way they wouldn't leak selfies because they wouldn't have any.
tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
The issue is that there is no alternative to the "selfie" auth in case of Revolut.
tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
This can happen with modern fintech because of greed. There's a reason they can offer such cheap services. The customer takes a risk in return. Now that risk has materialized.
tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
> But they are verifying customers in person with account creation, this is an online bank

Revolut could do the same as they do with ATMs: make a partnership with local banks for the verification step.

tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
I have accounts with 2 other banks. They never asked for a selfie.
tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
Here is one of the replies I got during my conversation with their agent (unsure if human or automated):

"Your personal data must be held until it is permissible to erase it in accordance with the law. Rest assured, it is totally secure and only held for this purpose."

This was in the same conversation where I sent them the article.

tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
I asked if my data was compromised, they said no, but how can I trust/verify this?
tdrz··on Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests
Other banks do not require selfies, so there are other options
tdrz··on Engineering of the fastest WebAssembly interpreters
Can I use it to embed PGlite in an app and distribute it like that? ie not to dependend on the host JIT/interpreter
tdrz··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
This! I live in Western Europe and have never owned a car. I mostly travel by public transport or bike. I rent a car about once a year, but could do without that as well. Before people tell me that I am an exception: I know other people like me in various other places in Europe! It is possible and actually good for your body to have to move, at least to the train station, carrying groceries etc.
tdrz··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
I'm an OSS maintainer and to me it's not just about the review itself. Being greeted by a wall of text for every little small thing is counter-productive. I hate going through 2 pages of text for each PR. It usually shouldn't take more than a couple of sentences if you understand the issue and the solution.

But most important for me: lots of time the PR just adds even more code, although other options do exist (ie sometimes REMOVING some code). You have to know the codebase well in order to find those objectively better solutions.

tdrz··on Celld: Self-hosted, distributed Durable Objects
> Next up, at some point, ideally we get some v8-like runtimes where we can share libraries across multiple isolates!

I'm probably missing your point, but aren't wasm memories achieving exactly this? Just an example from wasmtime: https://docs.wasmtime.dev/examples-multimemory.html

tdrz··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
To me, investing is NOT just getting the best outcome possible. I simply don't agree with some companies practices and therefore I don't want to invest in them. I believe I am better off if I live in a better society overall than if I have more money in a worse overall society.
tdrz··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
> 2. Buy inexpensive, well-diversified mutual funds such as Vanguard Target 20xx funds.

I wouldn't recommend this after seeing how SpaceX was literally shoved down lots of people's throats.

tdrz··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
PGlite - Postgres in wasm

Loads of useful things in the pipeline: multi connection support, native library, extensions and many more ideas.

tdrz··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
I have to admit that I don't understand how they can push for this so often! Wasn't this rejected not so long ago?
tdrz··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (June 2026)
PGlite - Postgres in WASM https://pglite.dev

We're very close to 10M weekly downloads https://www.npmjs.com/package/@electric-sql/pglite

Lots of ideas in the pipeline on where to take it next.

You'll need to fake much more than just that. Usually the bank website will ask you to confirm the transaction by opening the banking app on your mobile phone.
tdrz··on I am building a cloud
I'm very happy with my k8s setup for my small startup. I believe it would have been much harder for me to get it off the ground, manage it etc. without it.
tdrz··on PostGIS for PGlite
Hi HN,

PostGIS has been one of the most requested extensions for PGlite and we've recently ported it. For now, it doesn't contain some optional libraries like json-c and GDAL, but we see a path in adding those as well.

You can try it directly in our REPL https://pglite.dev/repl

We're very interested in seeing what people build with it.

tdrz··on Germany's Solar Boom Eases Power Costs as Gas Price Jumps
We absolutely need more investment in renewables and proven nuclear. But it is not only about this, more high-voltage inter-connections are needed. My understanding is that there is an EU initiative on this, just can't find the source right now.

Regarding nuclear, how much money did the ITER member states dump into something that is always 10 years away? That money could go into solar/batteries or fusion.

tdrz··on The only moat left is money?

tdrz··on Open source is not about you (2018)
One of the issues is that even if you do write documentation, some people that say they want to contribute will not search for it and directly proceed to ask the overworked maintainer to point them to the exact page of the documentation of their interest.
