ternaryoperator··on The Fall of Scientific American
I don’t think it’s woke that killed it. If they’d embraced the right with similar zest, the result would be the same. I think it’s ‘go divisive, go broke.’
ternaryoperator··on The Fall of Scientific American
Not sure what you mean about the Atantic. It is still an excellent publication of long form articles, IMHO.
ternaryoperator··on Why I'm Short the AI Buildout Even Though I'm Long Computers
A good read and a more reasoned version of the arguments Ed Zitron has been making.
ternaryoperator··on What Is the Karakoram Anomaly?
Germany due to its history of being a conglomeration of smaller states has one of the widest variety of names in foreign languages, depending on the historical focus of those tongues on one or the other of the tribes/peoples: Deutschland (Germany), Germany (English), Allemagne (French, and similarly in Spanish), Tedesco (Italian for a German), Tyksland (Danish), with other variants in Polish and other languages.
ternaryoperator··on The Other Epidemic: Trying to get off benzodiazepines
Seconding your experience. Used on an occasional basis, benzos can be helpful without resulting in the horror stories related here. Of course, everyone is different and YMMV, but confirming that your positive experience is not unique.
ternaryoperator··on Chicago O'Hare digs up 50-ton boulder under airfield, asks public for name ideas
Is a 50-ton boulder rare or super-rare?
ternaryoperator··on JetBrains Junie Local: An agent you own, not one you rent
What downfall? They continue to make great tools and I gladly pay for them.
ternaryoperator··on Norway Eyes Partial Ban of Smart Glasses
That’s a subtle but compelling distinction. Thanks.
ternaryoperator··on Norway Eyes Partial Ban of Smart Glasses
In the US, you have consented. It is settled law that there is no expectation of privacy while you’re in public. This is how paparazzi, among others, can work their trade. If consent were required, every star would ban photos of themselves in public. They can’t and nor can you.
ternaryoperator··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
> [On Windows] Your machine would be loaded up with software for various vendors that the manufacturer did deals with to lower the price of the machine.

So the only difference is that the vendor here is Apple itself. Honestly, not seeing much difference.

ternaryoperator··on What Meta got right with Muse
I use muse.ai for code analysis and so far, I find it excellent. I’m hoping JetBrains will make it accessible through Junie.
ternaryoperator··on Zig v0.17.0
The second part affirms that it is centralized. There is nothing wrong with that except saying that because you can leave the community and go elsewhere, it is ipso facto decentralized.
ternaryoperator··on The Copilot+ PC brand is dead
This happens all the time. Mercedes is a fairly common first name for girls in Spanish countries. Then, of course Alexa, etc.
ternaryoperator··on Oracle cites 'force majeure' to shield itself on controversial data center
> nobody uses oracle

Their quarterly statements say otherwise. The layoffs are not a function of declining sales, but of cutting back to conserve cash for AI build out.

ternaryoperator··on The Year of Internal Tools
Interesting—they do detailed analysis and requirements up front. Reminds me to a certain extent of the maligned waterfall model.
ternaryoperator··on An update on Wayback Machine access
I donate to them every year b/c I fully agree they’re doing a thankless critical job very well.
ternaryoperator··on A few good ideas in programming languages
That was due largely to the designers of the language, Bertrand Meyer and his wife, creating the tools. The tools, the seminars, and the books were primary income streams.
ternaryoperator··on iPhone Duo
The #1 vendor of phones in the world by unit sales is “dead in the water” b/c of a new $2K entrant?
ternaryoperator··on Nathan Fielder's Elizabeth Holmes Doc Met with Shock and Awe at Secret Screening
This movie is getting lots of publicity without a single review saying anything about the actual contents.
ternaryoperator··on I'm teaching an introductory 12 week course on Quantum Oracle Engineering
There is one; you have not earned it yet.
ternaryoperator··on Getting Started with AT Protocol
You’ll get more traction, by stating way up top what AT is and who should care about it.
ternaryoperator··on Wendell Berry has died
Reminds me of Andre Malraux’s remark that an unfortunate aspect of death is that it makes a life look like a journey to a known destination.
ternaryoperator··on Harvard Professor on Why You Should Learn C in 2026 [video]
If learning algorithms in C is a traumatic experience, then you and I have very different definitions of trauma.
ternaryoperator··on CobaltC – The Successor to C?
It's great to have it all spec'd out. However, I think specs like this suffer the same fate as war plans: they get modified quickly as soon as implementation begins. Nonetheless, it's good to have a clear idea of where you're headed. I just wouldn't call it "Final."
ternaryoperator··on Jason Arday, ex-Cambridge professor at centre of plagiarism row, found dead
Making up events in your personal history is not plagiarism.
ternaryoperator··on The brain may be about to have its Ozempic moment
In the definition of it, living things are specifically excluded.
ternaryoperator··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
I don’t think Nvidia fits on that list. It’s a company with a pro-employee culture, very few layoffs, and many employees who have been there a long time.
ternaryoperator··on Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK
Not sure where u get your information. Oracle Java is OpenJDK with a support license from Oracle. It is widely used in enterprises, and it is updated regularly.
ternaryoperator··on Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK
It is a community implementation although the vast majority of contributions come from Oracle staff. RedHat, in particular, has made numerous contributions.
ternaryoperator··on Grocery prices are Americans' top affordability challenge, report finds
> What people cite and what actually is are completely different.

You state this as some kind of universal axiom. Many times what people cite is exactly what is happening to them.
