They have a16z Crypto startup school: https://events.a16z.com/cryptostartupschool/

Note that a16z typically invests starting at Series A, post-traction.

You might consider applying to MetaCartel.org - a DAO which gives small grants to people building web3 application.

thowar2··on E Pur Si Muove
The range of controversial subjects in China is incredibly narrow, but the punishments worse.

For the most part, no one in your every day life gives a shit what you say or do.

For Americans and nationals of other privileged countries there is even more tolerance for the controversial subjects.

This sounds a bit like both https://clarity.fm/ and https://www.codementor.io/
thowar2··on Request for Startups: News, Jobs, and Democracy
I wouldn't consider college to be effective education. It's a credential factory, and the bar is low.

Bannon is the leader, not the follower. He takes advantage of those who are less informed and less likely to accurately judge fact from fiction.

If they were effectively educated, they would 1) be less susceptible to propaganda, 2) have better economic prospects and not be so pissed off.

Hey check out Common Curriculum [1] they are part of the way there.

thowar2··on Request for Startups: News, Jobs, and Democracy
Access to knowledge is not at all the problem.

Lack of "soft skills" is the problem. We are taught or force fed knowledge, but not taught how to be well adjusted people.

You were lucky, for some reason you came to understand the value of personal development and self education. This is something that needs to be taught to everyone. In the world.

thowar2··on Request for Startups: News, Jobs, and Democracy
Good point.

But I think its worth bringing up again as it is seemingly at the root of all the issues surfaced by the Trump presidency, which is the main driver of this new RFS

thowar2··on Request for Startups: News, Jobs, and Democracy
Yes this is a problem that certainly deserves attention.

But the education issues also apply to the other five in six children who do have food security. The education problem is one that affects anyone who does not have access to the best private schools.

When I say fix education, I don't mean teach people programming or whatever skills or knowledge that might give them a marginal leg up. Those things are becoming increasingly less valuable.

I mean teach people how to be well adjusted people, teach them soft skills of empathy and understanding others, teach them why and how to continuously improve themselves, teach them how to identify areas where they can contribute to society without waiting for a teacher or boss to tell them exactly what to do.

Without these abilities, more and more will fall into the poverty trap as the need for worker bees diminishes.

thowar2··on Request for Startups: News, Jobs, and Democracy
Education should be on this list.

The root of all these problems stem from a lack of effective education.

1) The current methods are highly ineffective for teaching

By getting more effective at teaching children, and helping them to self educate, we get better informed citizens who can interpret news more accurately and effectively participate in democracy.

2) The current goals for education do not align with current & future needs

Our current system is designed to produce factory workers for the industrial economy, which was adapted to produce knowledge workers for the information economy. But we are moving towards full automation of most of those jobs.

We will need to prepare people to be adaptable in a fast changing automated world: more entrepreneurial type skills are needed.

thowar2··on Ask HN: POTUS Donald Trump; What this means to Silicon Valley
Not true here in Asia.

People love Obama and they see Hillary as an extension of his presidency.

People are afraid of Trump. He reminds them of the corrupt, self interested, dictator types, which are rampant in this region.

The bigger story here, Obama has granted clemency to 111 inmates. It looks like they are mostly drug related. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/president-obama-grants-commut...

Stop doing this interior designers!

thowar2··on The End of Jobs – Why Entrepreneurship is less risky than traditional employment
I've been reading this book and really enjoying it! The author makes a really good case for the traditional career path being riskier than entrepreneurship, and why it is happening.

A common narrative is that not everyone can be an entrepreneur, but this assumption is also challenged.

Would love to hear counter arguments from anyone who is also reading this.

thowar2··on Tell HN: Entrepreneurs, make sure you are getting guaranteed wins in life
Meditation.

Just like exercise, the positive effects of meditation compound by putting in the time!

I couldnt read this. The design of the site hurts my brain. The font is painful and hard to read.
thowar2··on Brave New Phone Call
The product looks cool, and even had me a bit excited.

But then I saw "iPhone Only".

I agree that startups should stick to one platform when they are starting out, except when your product relies on the network effect to be useful.

Couple that with a big PR launch and its a failure from the start.

The product is irrelevant to a large portion of the world and handicapped to anyone with friends on Android.

thowar2··on Show HN: Retention Booster – Increase your users' retention rate in seconds
Yes but the copy on the site doesnt explain this, why should anyone sign up for vagueries?

Additionally, most other analytics tools do this, but this one seems to have a similar price and limited functionality.

Not saying it wont work, just that the messaging needs a lot of improvement.

thowar2··on Show HN: Retention Booster – Increase your users' retention rate in seconds
I dont understand what you are offering, it seems like a more limited version of Google Analytics! Also theres mixpanel and tons of other analytics services. You need to explain your product a lot better and explain how you are different than all the other analytics platforms.

Perhaps consider working with a marketer?
