vicek22··on Ghostty 1.4
I had no idea hints existed and that I needed them so badly.

If anyone is interested, I run zellij in my ghostty, and I let AI write a zellij hints plugin. It works ok. https://github.com/viktomas/zellij-hints

vicek22··on Superlogical
I love Ghostty. But I miss out on lots of its features because I use zellij exclusively to work with agents. This sounds exciting and I hope they'll choose some cliff oss license like gitbutler does

I like the moral part of Stoicism a lot, and even though the original texts are slightly morbid, the core idea makes perfect logical sense. You can't fully control things outside of your mind, and when you try to control them, you suffer (e.g. you don't want to get sick, but you will, you don't want to get old , but you will)

What I struggled with was applying this "logical understanding" to my day-to-day life. In other words, the recommended practice of morning and evening meditation was always too early and too late, respectively. I needed to have tools to use in the difficult moments directly.

I recently discovered Acceptance Commitment Therapy - It's an interesting mix of mindfulness and living in accordance with your values. If you also struggle to bring the stoic teachings to your minute-by-minute life, give the book "ACT made simple" a try.

There are differences.. Stoic teaching would have you analyse the thought (impression) and discard it as something out of your control. Whilst ACT will have you accept that the thought exists, but not identify with it. Stoics give you the values (virtues), ACT lets you pick them. But all in all, those two approaches are complementary.

This is fantastic! Thank you for that.

I'll use this daily

I use the scrollback buffer export to a temporary file (CMD+SHIFT+J), you can then open the file in any editor.

So my workflow is to type in `vim` and then press `CMD+SHIFT+J` and Enter

Way to go, the 7 years of updates was the reason I bought my Pixel 8 Pro

> The "only magnify in place" option is obviously a horrible idea. I don't know about you but my thumb is not transparent.

I think you misunderstood the proposed solution. If you look at the video, the magnification is offset. The improvement is that the cursor is only visible in the magnification.

That's strange, my latest Google Pixel has enough computing power that I could easily do my frontend development on it if I connected screen and keyboard and if the OS supported it.

I wouldn't be keen on writing the code on touchscreen, but I would love to have one small device that I can "dock" when I need to switch to poweruser mode.

vicek22··on Ask HN: What resources do you use to workout efficiently and without injuries?
> HRT prescribed by a doctor is most likely healthy.

This is a really interesting topic. I've heard Joe Rogan talking about it. I might have to visit private clinic to get my testosterone measured, it's not something that the public healthcare in Europe would be keen on doing without underlying medical condition.

This is something I'll have to do much more research and definitely visit a doctor before taking any hormone supplements. If you remember which resources convinced you about the procedure being useful and relatively safe, please link them :)

Re: Yoga

I've been following Yoga With Adriene (https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene) for half a year and I was quite happy with the variety of routines. Especially the Move 30 day program (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmlh6AHFW0E&list=PLui6Eyny-U...). Even though the routines are great, her style didn't quite resonate with me (it's too spiritual/positive for an engineer like me). I installed Down Dog and I'll try that app for a while. Thank you for the recommendation.

> When you’re doing the poses, don’t be afraid to move about a bit and explore your body

I struggle with this, I want to get through the poses as the instructor says and moving around to stretch a bit differently is not something I remember to do unless the instructor explicitly suggests it.

vicek22··on Ask HN: What resources do you use to workout efficiently and without injuries?
> they’re a waste of time compared to a massage gun

I've never heard of massage gun till today. Is there a specific recovery routine you follow or should I do my research on internet? E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvXwAR2e0Vo

vicek22··on Ask HN: What resources do you use to workout efficiently and without injuries?
> rowing and cycling

This resonates with me, I'll buy rowing machine for a quick cardio at home. Something that I can connect with my garmin fenix watch or my phone so I can try the EXR-like app. When the weather allows it, I'm cycling on my MTB outside.

> FTP training is also firmly established

Would you have some resources for FTP (Functional Threshold Power)? Can I do FTP for rowing or running or is it cycling specific thing?

vicek22··on Ask HN: What resources do you use to workout efficiently and without injuries?
> it is most likely the running. It is very, very hard on the body, particularly if you are heavy

You are right, it's not easy to hear. I'm doing my best to run only on toes and mainly on soft trails rather than pavement. But I'll look into improving my form. I'll probably rely on online resources rather than coaching. I'm not sure I would find person I would trust in my small town.

I live in a mountain area and running is my favorite outdoor activity, I'll just have to do my best to improve my form to reduce the toll it takes on my body.

I find that the ports of older PC RPGs are the best for paying only once and getting the full uninterrupted game.

Knights of the Old Republic I and II are the best IMO.

Maybe there could be a middle ground. For math-heavy applications, the editor could implement ligatures same as Fira-Code and the latex name would render as the symbol until you put a cursor on it.
vicek22··on Insurance is like gambling, don't overdo it
I lived in Melbourne, AU for a while, and their system seemed good. The third-party insurance wasn't mandatory (like here in the EU), only recommended. But you could buy insurance (something like reverse third party insurance) where if someone crashed into you, the insurance would pay you for the damages and then they'd get the money from the other person. It was very cheap.

That will depend on your definition. As mentioned in other threads, European countries are putting a certain speech outside of the law. The most essential outlawed speech is speech that directly urges others to violence. I think that free speech that doesn't allow for organizing physical violence is still a free speech. That being said, I would love to know if there are examples of instigating violence that were productive and useful for society (because there might be some)

vicek22··on Zettelkasten note-taking in 10 minutes
Sönke Ahrens describes a scenario that got me sold:

Normal notes are fighting complexity by creating smaller and smaller categories of notes

Example:

splitting "engineering notes" to "software notes" and "technical writing notes"

and then "software notes" to "java notes" and "design notes"

And this way the notes get deeper and deeper in your notebook and you stop interacting with them.

This described well my personal experience.

----

Zettelkasten fights this complexity by much more up-front work when adding and linking note, instead of a tree structure, you have a network.

vicek22··on Zettelkasten note-taking in 10 minutes
It is similar to private Wiki in how the notes are linked.

My understanding simplified:

Wiki - linked notes

Zettelkasten - Wiki + process on how to read and work with resources, guidelines on how notes should be added, structured and tagged
