zardo··on Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production
> Can you actually run home appliances from a regular ICE car?

You would need to add an accessory generator (which probably won't fit under the hood) and possibly upgrade the cooling system.

zardo··on Starfall – Affordable, routine access to microgravity
Maybe they could if they weren't trying to get those governments to compete against each other with tax breaks.
zardo··on Starfall – Affordable, routine access to microgravity
I would guess most of the cost wasn't direct, but the time and effort to get something approved to fly on the ISS.
zardo··on Everything is an AI scam now
The somethingwful forums solved this problem 20 years ago. $10bux
zardo··on Tencent Hy4
> I cannot see a way out of a major economic crisis, even if we do start to see dramatic productivity wins.

The only thing worse for the economy than failure would be success.

zardo··on The AI Boom May Be Sowing Seeds of Another Financial Crisis
> What do you think the results of most humans suddenly becoming economically irrelevant will be?

Interesting times.

zardo··on Embedding boolean circuits in a neural network
Why would that be a problem? If you have a differentialable program in the circuit it should be compatible with backpropagation. It just doesn't have weights to update.
zardo··on Google researchers demand freedom to tell the world what they know about AI
Even if it hits the wall today and no further progress toward general AI is made for decades, as the current technology is applied in more areas and expertise with it is gained it would still have enormous social and economic impacts over the next few decades.
zardo··on Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen
If it's new it's news.

zardo··on Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen
They're just included in the prompt as big lists of numbers.
zardo··on Pilot-wave hydrodynamics (Quantum phenomena in macroscopic hydrodynamic systems)
It's in the video, they've just framed up the shot to see the reflection of what looks like a piece of paper with colored stripes printed on it.
zardo··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
Maybe they are looking great though, crisp uniforms absolutely dripping with medals.
zardo··on US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears
> Reddit traffic is down and management blames AI search not referring users to Reddit.

Couldn't have anything to do with management's decision to require logins to access the site.

zardo··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
> Is the idea that we should precisely time both?

That's the usual approach yes. You want to have equipment you buy show up where it's going to be installed, installed and activated in as short a time possible. You don't want to have it sit in a warehouse for 6 months while you try to get permission to break ground because, in a normal market, the equipment will be losing value during that time.

zardo··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
> Is the idea that buying GPUs before you buy the datacenters is hoarding but buying datacenters before you buy the GPUs is not?

Does someone have a storage room full of data centers?

zardo··on US Reps Lead Democratic Resolution Opposing A.I. Bubble Bailout for Big Tech
In this case, companies actually do have large inventories of GPUs they bought before they had datacenters to install them in.
zardo··on I went to Mexico to test-drive the cars Americans can’t buy
As they say, safety regulations are written in blood.
zardo··on Mistral Large 4 (Le Chonk) is now Open Weight
Are there actually any laws to break?

Alibaba (Qwen) at least has plenty of people in US offices to go arrest.

zardo··on Spiders Spin 'Silk Dope' into Nature's Toughest Material
Silk worms make a cocoon, for a spider you would need individually "silk" each one every few days.
zardo··on Qwenputer: A functioning, deterministic RISC-V CPU inside Qwen3.5
How much VRAM do I need to run DOOM?
zardo··on Gaussian Splats part 3: There's always a bigger scene
I could swear I saw something about an NFL broadcast using them. They were part of the PGA championship broadcast.
zardo··on Genie 4
Showing off an anglo-bias with the Japanese train station in the 1980s, with a man speaking english.
zardo··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
I don't see how anything would be more resilient than solar.
zardo··on Three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
The time required to verify is much higher, so some combination of vastly speeding that up or vastly increasing the quality of individual "thought steps".
zardo··on CorridorKey 2.0
Then cg is also tired status quo stuff. I'm working on brain generated imagery where a carefully engineered prompt causes the user to picture a scene directly in their mind.
zardo··on AI didn't cause the tech jobs bust, but it explains why there's no recovery
"computer touchers"
zardo··on Diamond Transistor
Power electronics isn't just grid scale equipment.
zardo··on Claude designed protein binders against scorpion neurotoxins
I guess if you want good health care at an affordable cost you should have gone to Mexico where the anti-venom that is $10,000 a vial in the US is sold (by the same company) for $100 a vial.
zardo··on Triplet of 'ghostly' galaxies hints at what dark matter is and isn't
What's so illogical about it? Galaxies are spinning as though there's matter that we don't see. Maybe there's matter that we don't see.
