I have a horse named Concord and a penchant for flowery social justice.

Ah yes, it can be quite fun chasing down heisenbugs like that, half sarcastically :)
dennis_moore··on Everyone is capable of, and can benefit from, mathematical thinking
> One is that math nerds at school insisted on intimidating for the win and I just hated it.

For me the worst part was the teachers that encouraged that behavior and did the same.

Which profilers in particular are you referring to because I've always thought that Callgrind is a profiler? perf?
dennis_moore··on AI in software engineering at Google: Progress and the path ahead
It works until it doesn't at which point you have a massive, useless pile of uninterpretable garbage.

This is great: I like both the concept and how responsive the implementation is. Please consider open sourcing it.

> A canonical list of references from a leading figure would be appreciated by many.

That confirms the opposite, no?

I failed to find any evidence that this person is an OpenAI employee, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes I can, because I didn't choose to be angry either.

dennis_moore··on Free MIT Course: Performance Engineering of Software Systems
I think that the term "software system" can have a much broader meaning than the one you are using here.
dennis_moore··on How will AI learn next?
Not sure if raw data size is a good metric. One usually gains more information by reading a book than watching a movie.
dennis_moore··on How Wittgenstein Watched Movies
I was not advocating for "online slacktivism", I was merely giving my opinion of what rules or laws ought to be introduced to the effect, akin to copyright laws or open-source licenses (it is not "online activism" to give correct attribution according to the terms of a license). Shouldn't we be able to have this debate, or do you think that this decision-making should be confined to policymakers?
dennis_moore··on How Wittgenstein Watched Movies
This made me think that we, as a society, ought to have some sort of convention to mark AI-generated images as such, like a small watermarked symbol in a corner.

"To call a function, the program should place the first six integer or pointer parameters in the registers %rdi, %rsi, %rdx, %rcx, %r8, and %r9." This sounds like System V, hence GCC.

With the EU having banned Russia from its airspace, I wonder what route these flights take.
dennis_moore··on Google Search Is Dying
I like this idea of incorporating trust and reputation. As for the curation of websites not scaling, some time ago I thought about the possibility of a search engine where the user supplies a list of trusted websites (for example, university websites, blogs of people they admire), and the search engine ranks pages based on link distance to these websites.

I tried that but everything after the # got stripped when I submitted the link.

I find it mildly entertaining to casually browse random 17-year-old code lying at the heart of the Linux kernel and encounter gems like this.
dennis_moore··on The case against masks at school
You wouldn't expect an article that talks about the long-term effects of COVID to also address the downsides of mask and restrictions, so why should the opposite be true? You can read independent arguments for both sides of the issue, judge their strengths and weaknesses, and then make up your own mind.
