haunter··on Porting Android 16 to my blind mother's keypad phone

haunter··on The Hackintosh Reborn
Switch 2 user space has been jailbroken so any game can be dumped. But not the other way, so the Switch 2 can't run pirated Switch 1/2 games yet.

There are now Switch 2 emulators that can run any dumped game on PC/Mac etc. https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_Switch...

Most Switch 2 games are getting dumped, including the just released Ocarina of Time Remake https://imagepaste.org/i/kx5c925r.png

As I mentioned in my comment there is a native Switch code compiler for Mac, so not emulation https://github.com/seedds/nxnative

haunter··on The Hackintosh Reborn
Seeing that Macs can now run Switch 1/2 games natively because of the ARM CPU is actually incredibly. And to me personally the first hand on sign of the end of x86.
haunter··on Hungary: Communist-era files released, up to 60k former agents revealed
The title of the article is "up to 60,000 former agents revealed"
haunter··on Hungary: Communist-era files released, up to 60k former agents revealed
As a hungarian: agent would imply a member of the secret police which have already been released years ago. These are informants, regular people like students and teachers to members of the churches to actors and musicians etc.

Also

1, this should have been released long ago cause many of these people are already dead.

2, they only released the official record of the informant. Their background, who contacted them (from the secret police), when they were approached etc. But there is nothing about actual reports, like _did they do anything at all_ or not.

Even the Nobel Prize winner (2023) Karikó Katalin has a record on her yet she already wrote her autobiography years ago mentioning this, how and when she was approached and she didn't report anything at all. Now everyone have to decide on their own what to believe or not.

Ahh my bad sorry

haunter··on Obscure audio codec is a perfect fit for the N64
> There's an explosion of N64 ports lately

There's an explosion of ALL ports lately. It's crazy.

Ocarina of Time only got released today officially but it's already playable on ARM Macs. It's not even a port per se but executing the Switch ARM code natively. And of course it's also playable on emulators regardless of the platform

haunter··on TextEdit vs. Pages
Wonder if it can be still compiled for modern Apple Silicon MacOS given Cocoa have been pretty much removed
haunter··on Baidu released ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base
OT

dropped is the worst word in this context because it can both mean ‘released’ or ‘terminated/ended’

Baidu dropped ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base = Baidu released a new version of their software

Baidu dropped ERNIE 5.5 Flash Base = Baidu ended the support of their software

haunter··on BYD doubles its Brazil market share to 9.7% a year after opening its local plant
Funny because I live in Hungary, the country with the highest VAT in EU (27%), and BYD is not the cheapest at all. Neither in the EV and ICE (hybrid) category
haunter··on Apple reports fourth quarter results
Apple could eat the console market alive with the Apple TV. The hardware and performance is there but they don’t seem to care about it.
haunter··on BYD sold more EVs last month than the US did all quarter
I've yet to see an actual premium EV akin to the ICE cars from Lexus, Acura, or Genesis.

In fact that's my problem with all EVs because EVEN Lexus, Acura, and Genesis is not sticking to their premium quality when they release an EV version of their ICE cars. The Lexus ES ICE is legendary. The Lexus ES EV looks like a plastic coffin with 2 tablets. It's probably the zeigeist of car designs and/or my taste but I feel all EVs look the same without much personality. Not even mentioning the chinese brands because Geely, Leapmotor, BYD etc all look the same to me.

Say we have a Lexus LX 600 https://www.lexus.com/models/LX Why does this car can't be released as is, the same design and same interior but with an EV drivetrain?

> Some EU countries even charge you a copyright tax when you buy a smartphone per gigabyte because they just assume that you'll fill every gigabyte with pirated music.

I live in Hungary where this is common but it's more like a "you pay tax for storage which goes to the labels, in turn we don't prosecute piracy" https://www.artisjus.hu/english/copyright-in-hungary/

Mind you we have a hungarian private torrent tracker with 400k users and 2.7 petabyte of data running since 2005. Virtually everyone is using it in the country but no one really wants to shut it down because at this point it's also a cultural archive.

haunter··on My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii
Yes if you jailbreak it

It removes the region lock and you can set the system language to english. The eShop was shutdown already so that doesn’t matter

haunter··on I went to Mexico to test-drive the cars Americans can’t buy
I live in Europe: My only “concern” about chinese cars (and I don’t mean chinese as in Volvo) that I am not sure you will get parts and service in 10 or 15 years. More than 500 unique models were released in the first 6 months of 2026 alone [0]. It’s like the wild west of Android phones 10-15 years ago. Brands you never heared about, never updated Android versions etc

haunter··on 16-bit Windows (Windows 1.x, 2.x, 3.0, 3.1, etc.) on 64-bit Windows
Installed MS Office 2.0 some months ago with it just for fun. It actually works pretty well apart from the dictionary files, for some reason those are not recognized

https://files.catbox.moe/dy4bqy.png

I’ve used it for a week just I was curious:

1, is it good enough for modern day to day word processing (mostly emails)? Yes it is

2, can the modern word processors (Office 365, LibreOffice, Google Docs) recognize and open the files created with it? (doc, rtf anything but plain text) Yes they can

haunter··on I refuse to accept a censored Internet. Join Me at FOSDEM 27
Most people prefer censored internet as long as it aligns with their political leaning. Maybe that wasn't the case 15 years ago but it's pretty much true nowadays. I myself consider this as a fact.
haunter··on Reverse engineer of PC-98 Touhou games retires
People should really read the whole thing (well at least the last chapter) because it's not as simple as "vibe coders made meg go away".

The writer equally hates ZUN, vibe coders, and AI haters (Bluesky crowd)

And if not then the TLDR is basically: ZUN made the games for japanese people. Western people wanted to play the games. Reverse engineers came along but they relied on community funding. Now the community is taken apart by vibe coders but the same community is not willing to fund manual labor. Also the community is still paying for ZUN which enforces the status quo of not bothering with english releases.
