mcmcmc··on Kalshi and its co-founders face felony charges for violating Utah gambling laws
The Founders didn’t exactly anticipate the internet. If states can place restrictions on certain types of speech (eg porn or abortion advocacy) they can certainly place restrictions on gamblers within their borders

The 10th Amendment exists, and regulation of gambling and/or financial futures are definitely not in the constitution

“Regulated by the CFTC” is a bit of an oxymoron when they don’t do any real enforcement

Surely you’re being facetious, insider trading is obviously a huge problem that is rarely enforced and we’ve already seen instances of people actively influencing events or using false information to fake the result of a bet

Sure, in the glossary. But you have to explain it first before you start throwing jargon around. Otherwise people will bounce off it or go off their own incorrect perception of the word because vanishingly few people in the target audience will bother with the glossary, or even realize one is there without a specific callout up front

If the differentiating factor is just who you’re betting against, how are Kalshi et al any different from online poker? It’s still gambling, the house just takes a rake

Have to agree with you. You can’t introduce concepts like phishing and MFA without actually explaining what they are.

This is such a cop out response. They still need funding, and infrastructure, and to build up an entire customer base who presumably they would need to bribe with free service at a loss in order to attract anyone new. Who’s gonna fund that when there’s a known market ceiling for the service that’s already been captured? We’re not in ZIRP anymore
